Parfums de Nicolai
Patricia de Nicolaï is a French Perfumer who works as the head of her own perfume company Parfums de Nicolai. She is also a member of the technical committee of the French Society of Perfumers and the president of the Osmothèque scent archive.
Patricia de Nicolaï was born in Paris into the Guerlain perfumer family and is the great-granddaughter of Pierre Guerlain and niece of Jean-Paul Guerlain. After studying chemistry in university, de Nicolai entered and studied at ISIPCA the renowned school of perfumery in Versailles.
Following in the long family tradition, she eventually launched her own perfume company (brand: “NICOLAÏ, créateur de parfum”) in 1998 with her husband Jean-Louis Michau, wherein the opinion of some she created some of the best works in contemporary perfumery, and is noted by Luca Turin as being “…one of the unsung greats of the fragrance world.”
“Everything is ahead and the best is always to come. Every day is a battle and you must never rely on a so-called success of yours otherwise you’re finished! Especially in the niche family…Regarding my proudest moment, it is simply the fact that I have been given credibility to my brand, a credibility which has been glorified the day I received a phone call telling me that I was appointed to become a prestigious French ‘Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur’ in 2008; an honour which I was awarded as the creator of a perfume brand and not as a simple perfumer. It meant a lot to me.” – Patricia de Nicolai, interview CaFleureBon
